Chevy says battery scans and software update will allow 2017-2019 Bolt owners to once again charge their batteries to full capacity.

The EVs were recalled last November following reports of the batteries catching on fire while charging near 100%. As a temporary measure, owners were asked to limit their battery's charging capacity to 90% until a more permanent fix could be found.…

GM did the right thing by recalling ineffective seat belts a few years back. It just would have been so much better if they used the right replacement parts.

Now to be fair, only 2,800 of the over 1 million recalled vehicles ended up with the wrong pretensioner cable assemblies but considering the last recalls were in 2016 and 2018 this probably won't sit well with the owners driving around with the wrong seat belts for the last few years.…

The 2015 Chevy Colorado is being recalled to fix intermittent power steering loss.

These trucks have had ongoing power steering issues because of corroded electrical connections inside the steering gear assemblies. GM plans on replacing the torque sensor cover assembly and applying anti-corrosion gel to the electrical connections. Let's hope it works.…

GM is urging owners of the 2021 Express to park outside and away from anything that could burn until the vans get repaired.

Late last year they said the van's batteries could drain when the positive battery cable accidently came in contact with the fuse block assembly. Now they're saying it's less drain, more flame—as in at least four vans have gone up in smoke due to the batteries short-circuiting.…

GM thinks the 3rd row seat belts in their 2021 SUVs could have been damaged during installation.

The belts were misrouted behind the seat-folding mechanism and a recall wants to inspect and replace them if neccessary. Even if the belts don't look damaged to you, this is a classic better-safe-than-sorry situation.…

GM may have used the wrong bolts to secure the seat belts in certain 2020 and 2021 Chevy models.

Could the new bolts work? Maybe. But when it comes time to rely on the seat belts, it's better knowing the right parts were used to tether them to the frame.…

Chevrolet has recalled 460 Bolt EVs to fix leaky front-left brake calipers.

The automaker believes the calipers weren't cast properly, allowing them to leak during hard stops. Losing brake fluid is never great, but the real concern is that the caliper could eventually fracture and no-one enjoys a sudden loss of braking power.…

General Motors is recalling roughly 68,700 Bolt EVs to temporarily limit their battery capacities hoping it'll prevent further battery fires.

The automaker has confirmed five fires are the result of a defect inside the EV's high-voltage battery systems. The batteries contain cells from LG Chem and as they approach a 100% charged state there's an issue that can cause a short-circuit and spark a flame.

The issue has been under investigation by the safety regulators since last month.…

The frunk is back in the news.

Just a couple weeks after being recalled for failing to meet latch safety standards the front trunk is being recalled again for flying open while the vehicle is in motion.

So it stays closed when you need it to open, and opens when you need it to stay shut? Got it.…

The 8th generation Corvette has a front trunk, sometimes referred to as a frunk.

Despite the name change the frunk is still required to have an internal release mechanism in case your kid climbs into the frunk and gets themselves locked inside.

The Corvette does have a release mechanism but it's an electric button instead of a physical latch. And an auditor found that the button stops working once the car enters "sleep" mode which is roughly 10 minutes after the engine is shut off.…

The 2021 Trailblazer has already been recalled because 19 of them are missing a tire size and tire pressure information label.

Luckily those 19 owners don't have to go to the dealership as GM plans on sending the missing labels in the mail.

The front gas tank in some 2016-2018 General Motors HD trucks is overfilling, rupturing, and leaking fuel.

The affected trucks all have two gas tanks. The front tank requests fuel from the backup when running low, but a defective sensor is requesting more fuel than the tank can hold. GM is recalling the trucks to stop the front tank from over-filling and rubbing against the driveshaft.…

The electronic power steering may suddenly stop working in over 27,000 Cadillacs, Corvettes, and Camaros.

An internal GM investigation found inconsistencies with the circuit boards supplied by Bosch. You’ll still be able to steer, but turning gets a heck of a lot harder without power assistance. GM will replace the entire power steering gear assemblies in a recall expected to begin this month.

Airbag inflators are exploding in the 2010-2011 Malibu, but this time it’s not one made by Takata.

GM says more than 1,100 sedans have ARC driver-side airbag inflators that are over-pressurizing, rupturing during an airbag deployment, and sending metal shrapnel through the cabin.

The automaker has sent out a notice about the (obvious) danger this creates, but affected owners will have to wait for a second notice until the recall actually begins.

Let’s hope GM is feeling “over-pressurized” to get those replacement parts ready ASAP.

You’ve barely had a chance to get your 2019 truck dirty before buzzkill GM comes knocking for a recall of damaged airbag control modules.

The busted module means the passenger side airbag might not deploy in a crash … or maybe it will? No-one really knows and that’s kind of the point.

The recall covers the 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 / GMC Sierra 1500 and is expected to begin on December 26th. I’m glad they didn’t plan it for the 24th, the traffic can be awful with all those grandma and reindeer collisions.

Airbag deployment sensors have a manufacturing mode to prevent inadvertent deployments while building the car.

But here’s the thing – it’s really important that workers at the factory switch that mode off before the car is shipped out the door. GM employees forgot to do that.…

f you crank the heat in certain GM vans, you might get more than you bargained for due to an electrical short.* If the temperature is set to maximum heat or the mode knob is set to maximum floor vent and an electrical short occurs, components inside the modules may overheat and catch fire.

Any potential fires will start in the headliner. I like the cabin toasty on a cold winter day, but that’s a bit too much. GM doesn’t know when the recall will begin, so keep the heat down in the meantime.

There’s an important recall for parents who’ve installed child seats using a seat belt.

For installation of the child seat using the seat belt, there are automatic retractor assemblies equipped with retractors that lock automatically.

This should lock the seat belt when it is completely pulled out of the retractor. However, the defects can cause the retractor to not lock the seat belt when it is pulled out of the retractor.…
