Another owner is suing GM following their decision to cap the Bolt's battery capacity at 90%, even if that's a temporary fix to prevent fires.

The automaker recalled the Chevy EVs last November after learning that the batteries can spark a flame as they are charging and nearing 100%. By temporarily capping them at 90%, GM can stop those fires while they search for a more permanent solution.

But a plaintiff in Michigan says Bolt owners need to contend with range anxiety and diminished resale value while they wait. Call me crazy, but a temporary restriction on range feels a lot more desirable than a permanently charred engine.…

according to a new class-action lawsuit. That has sparked some serious range anxiety for Canadian owners. Most EV owners are aware that cold weather is going to slow the battery down a bit, but that problem has been compounded by GM's decision to limit the Bolt's charging capacity to 90%.…

Toss another lawsuit onto the ever-growing pile of GM Vortec oil consumption cases.

The Missouri based class-action is the latest in a series of suits saying the 5.3L Vortec engine churns through oil because of defects in the low-tension piston rings. The problem is compounded by GM's questionably designed oil life monitoring system which doesn't warn owners when oil levels get dangerously low.

In fact the system doesn't monitor oil levels at all, just the quality of the oil itself. So while the engine may be dry and on the verge of collapse, rest assured that last quart of oil is still in tip-top shape. 👍🏼…

General Motors is facing a second legal challenge for problems related to warped and cracked wheels in the C7 Corvette.

As reported by the Detroit Free Press, the consolidated class-action lawsuit was brought by eightteen 2015-2019 C7 Corvette owners, specifically the Z06 and Grand Sport trims.

The plaintiffs are seeking millions of dollars in reimbursements for costs related to replacing wheels that are prone to deforming and cracking without impact damage because GM opted for a cast aluminum rather that a forged wheel.…

GM used heat shields that don't curve under the starters in the 5th and 6th generation Camaro, according to a new lawsuit.

That leaves them exposed to heat and makes them completely unreliable. The plaintiff says the problem is particularly noticable on hot days or after a long drive where the engine gets hot. The car has to cool down before an owner can start it back up.

Over time the lack of heat protection will melt the wires, damage the fuses, and create all sorts of electrical havoc to the starter's conductors.…

A new class-action is accusing General Motors of knowingly selling vehicles that consume abnormally high quantities of oil.

It's not the first time GM has been sued for oil issues in the Vortec engine. Specifically (and stick with me here) the Generation IV 5.3L V8 Vortec 5300 LC9 engine.

As with previous lawsuits, the plaintiffs say low-tension piston rings, oil spray from the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system, and agressive vacuuming from the engine's positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system are to blame.…

There's growing concern that GM has made a series of bad decisions about the wheels for the C7 Corvette (2015-2019).

1) They used cast aluminum and not forged wheels. 2) They used less than the recommended amount of casted material. 3) They blame drivers when the wheels split apart after going over bumps

Now a lawsuit filed in California is accusing GM of systematically denying warranty coverage to owners with cracked wheel problems, even if the prolem happens well within the standard 3-year / 36,000 mile warranty.

GM allegedly cut corners by installing a fuel pump that isn’t compatible with US diesel in its larger trucks.

It’d almost be hard to believe, except we are talking about GM here. The same company that swept a deadly ignition switch problem under the rug for a decade, rather than spend $0.90 per unit to fix it.

A lawsuit says a failed vacuum pump in GM’s brake boosters can make the brake pedal extremely hard to push, leading to longer stopping distances and accidents.

While investigating a rear-end collision involving the lead plaintiff ”GM told her she should read the manual to understand how the brakes worked.” Nothing says “we value our customers” like accusing them of not knowing how brakes work. GM promised to fix the plaintiff’s bumper in exchange for confidentiality. Obviously this didn’t go over well.

federal case against GM’s handling of their ignition switch recall might be over, but a judge has left the door open for owners to sue the automaker for economic losses if they want. Judge Jesse Furman ruled on claims of "manifest defects," or what claims can proceed based on if the defect manifested itself to a customer. The consolidated lawsuit is a massive 1,700 pages of arguments that GM should pay any vehicle owner who owned a recalled car equipped with bad ignition switches.

If you own (or have owned) one of the affected cars, this judge says you should be able to sue GM even if problems related to the ignition switch never affected you personally.

Normally I’d say there’s no way that’ll hold up in court … but it just did.

A lawsuit says the 2.4L Ecotec engine in the 2010-2017 Equinox burns too much oil, knocks incessantly, has defective spark plugs, and is pre-disposed to timing chain issues that can lead to complete engine failure

All of these problems are allegedly masked by an inadequate warning system that gives owners a false sense of security as their engine rips itself apart from the inside.

Have you heard about the lawsuit that says the side blind zone alert system in the 2013-2018 Chevy Cruze is defective?

The lawsuit claims that the system fails because the sensors are poorly sealed and over-exposed to elements like debris and road spray.

GM has filed a motion to dismiss the case saying the plaintiffs are blind to the fact that of 250,000 Cruze vehicles with the Enhanced Safety Package, only 40 (0.016%) needed service during the warranty period according to the lawsuit.

The decision is pending.

A consolidated class-action lawsuit is accusing GM of equipping its Duramax diesel engines with defeat devices.

The plaintiffs claim emissions tests show the Silverado and Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks emit levels of nitrogen oxides higher than GM advertised. The emissions are also allegedly higher than government standards.

The lawsuit says the engines are equipped with multiple devices to control emissions in specific situations, but that the engines generally produce 2.1 to 2.4x the legal limit.

That’s amateur hour next to VW’s diesel defeat devices that spewed 40x the legal limit of NOx.

A lawsuit says defective piston rings have been causing overheating and oil consumption issues in Equinox and Terrain vehicles since 2010.

The allegedly faulty engines cause too much oil to enter the combustion chambers, something General Motors has allegedly known about since before 2010. The plaintiffs claim defective piston rings, including both “compression” and “oil” rings, can't handle the high compression ratios of the engines.

The EcoTec’s 2.4-liter piston rings can’t maintain a good seal within the crankcase. That means more oil and more engines hitting the scrapheap.

Guess it isn’t very eco-friendly after all.

It's no secret that the Equinox's 2.4-liter EcoTech engine has problems with excessive oil consumption.

Now there's a lawsuit that wants Chevy to do something about it.

In the end, the plaintiffs claim the EcoTec 2.4-liter piston rings can't maintain a sufficient seal within the crankcase. The engines also contribute to the oil consumption due to spray jets that spray oil onto the piston skirts and cylinder walls.…

Chevy started offering an optional "blind zone alert" safety upgrade with the 2013 Cruze. However, they placed the system's sensors on the rear bumper which, according to a new lawsuit leaves the system suceptible to spray from the rear wheel wells.

The sensors and wiring are allegedly sealed poorly and allow water and debris to affect the systems, leaving owners with non-working systems they paid for.

Because of the defective design, dealers allegedly can't effectively repair the systems and any damaged sensors are installed in the same problematic locations. The plaintiffs in the case said replacement sensors were on back-order when they brought their car in for service.…

A lawsuit filed in Oklahoma says GM’s A/C will only blow hot air due to multiple defects in the HVAC system.

And that the automaker wasn’t upfront about the problem.

The lawsuit says there are at least two defective parts of the air conditioning system, the first being the line leading from the compressor to the condenser. This line consists primarily of an aluminum tube connected to a rubber hose, but the plaintiffs claim the tube can disconnect from the rubber hose and allow the refrigerant to leak.
Additionally, the aluminum tube is allegedly defective because it can rupture and allow the leak to occur.…

A proposed settlement will award certain GM owners in Arizona about $200 each for owning cars with ignition switch problems.

The $6.28 million will be paid to about 33,000 GM owners in Arizona, as long as they purchased the vehicles between July 2009 and July 2014 and didn't get rid of the vehicles before the ignition switch recalls were announced in 2014..
